LOVE LOCKS AT THE MOST LJUBAVI, VRNJAčKA BANJA SERBIA

At the time a teacher named Nada was attending a young Serbian soldier named Relja. They often met at Most Ljubavi during their courtship. As many young couples do, they had promised themselves in that place love and commitment to each other just before Reija left for the war. In fact, shortly after the promise and then engaged with each other, Relja leaves for Greece, where, after the collapse of the Serbian front following the Austro-Hungarian attack of 6 October 1915, he fell in love with one local woman from Corfu. This made the two young people broke their engagement.

Nada no longer recovered from that devastating blow and shortly afterwards he died of his unfortunate love. Hear this news, the girls of Vrnjačka Banja wanted to protect their loves, and began to write their names together with the names of their loved ones on the padlocks. They tied them to the railing of the bridge where Nada and Relja met. However, tradition has become extinct over time. It was only when Serba Maksimović's writer and poet and poetess wrote a poem entitled to Prayer for Love (in Serbian: Molitva Za Ljubav) that the legend regained popularity. People have started to tie their love to the bridge again with the so -called "love of love". As a result, he acquired the name Bridge of Love. After people have tied their love with a railing lock, the keys should be thrown into the river below, so that they could no longer be found.

Another bridge in Serbia is also known with the appellation of "Love Bridge".

It is the Bianco bridge in Vranje, built in the name of a tragic love never made. Serbia did not get well during the war and in the end the war efforts of the Serbs were not successful. After the defeat of the Serbian army, Relja remained in Corfu, a small town located right on the border between Greece and Serbia on the Greek side. He chose that seat because he had fallen in love with a local Greek girl. Reija and Nada never revived in their lives again. But the worst thing of this refusal and abandonment is that Nada never exceeded abandonment. Poignant and sadly let themselves be cleared until death for an unrequited love. She died shortly after and the other single and loyal women of her city have noticed it. They soon understood that their destiny would be different from that of the unfortunate Nada, the girls took to the street, each with a padlock and a key to love literally in hand, and headed towards the meeting place of Nada and Relja. They wrote their name and the name of their beloved on the front of their locks, attacking them together with chain jersey. Then they symbolically threw their keys into the river to protect their love. Over the decades, the site is thus covered with love of love and the structure below is now almost completely obscured. "A prayer for love" by Desanka Maksimović

But this time, they were not only couples just engaged or promises, but also partners married for some time that celebrated weddings and anniversaries who participated in tradition.

The birth of the tradition of the love locks in modern times

Due to the international visibility of Maksimovic, the tradition began to take hold in other cities, in particular in the same city of love, Paris. Today all over the world couples remember Nada and Reija and go to the places where this tradition is practiced, often taking commemorative photos and even noting the GPS coordinates for their memory books.
